Workshop on popular 18th-century
Irish and Scottish music
In the footsteps of the bards
The Curious Bards
15 - 18 August 2026
Instruction
Founded in 2015, the ensemble The Curious Bards is made up of five musicians who are passionate about popular 18th-century music of northern Europe. Their approach to this repertoire is quite unusual, bringing together serious musicological research and boundless energy. Following their studies at the Conservatories of Lyons, Paris, and Basel, they plunged into the music of Ireland, Scotland, England, Sweden, and Norway with an eye to not only rediscovering and reinterpreting early repertoires, but also to lending them a modern, creative touch.
The ensemble is much more than a simple group of musicians. It’s a collection of rather crazy researchers who launch themselves into experiments in sound, decipher forgotten instrumental techniques, and bring new life to old pieces while dynamizing them with contagious freshness. Their sound? A perfect mix of authenticity, research, and pure energy that makes listeners dance as well as think. Each of their concerts is a journey where tradition and innovation rub elbows, and music-making becomes a living, thrilling adventure.
